Don’t just upgrade your emailing version; migrate to a whole new messaging environment. The all new Exchange 2010 gives you the ultimate messaging and collaborative experience. If you are a Lotus Notes user, it’s time to think about the benefits you are experiencing and those that you can avail with a simple migration. But Notes to exchange 2010 migration calls for a bit different approach than earlier methods but before that, here’s a quick description of the distinct benefits of Outlook over Notes.

1.The prime reason is easy usage and simple interface of Outlook email client which compels many Lotus Notes users to migrate.
2.Another important reason for this switch is that Lotus Notes does not offer flexibility like Microsoft.
3.Manageability cost of Lotus Notes is comparatively much higher than MS Outlook.
4.Lotus Notes is reputed more as an enterprise level email application, thus not suited for use on home PCs, adding one more reason for Lotus Notes to Outlook conversion.

Now the case is….

Migration doesn’t allow for the configuration settings to smoothly transition over as they would if you were moving from Exchange 2003 or 2007 Exchange to 2010. The problem is when you try to use the Microsoft Transporter Suite, installation completes but the configuration fails. This is because it was never designed for Exchange Server 2010. Transporter Suite can’t be used for Notes to Exchange 2010 migration as Microsoft didn’t update the tool for Exchange 2010.

As per Microsoft, the Transport suite won’t support or will be developed for Exchange 2010 in near future as most customers already prefer more full featured tools, versus the free Exchange migration tool offered by Microsoft. When you try to migrate directly from Notes to Exchange 2010, this is what happens:

What does not function?

1.Directory Synchronization
2.Free Busy
3.Move-Domino Mailbox

You can though Move-DominoUser UI/powershell using it.

Solution:

Well this is not everyone’s task. An Exchange Certified Master and MVP for Exchange can use an Exchange 2007 Server and the Microsoft Transporter Suite to first migrate to Exchange 2007 and then transition to 2010. You can use this as your bridge server to and from Domino for the duration of the coexistence and migration, and then retire it when complete.

Well, there is a better solution to directly avoid this bridge method. As Microsoft indicates, use a third party software program to migrate directly from Notes to Exchange 2010.

Notes to Outlook tool to ensure a stable, secure and manageable unified communications platform. This is all inclusive software to help at each step of migration from planning and analysis through migration and ongoing management. It converts any number of .NSF file(s) to .PST/Exchange. It also lets you to directly convert Domino user mailboxes to new account in Exchange Server or .PST. No need to first migrate and then transit to finally accustom yourself with Exchange 2010 environment. Simply experience the features of this amazing tool and know more about it with the free version itself.

The Internal Error 2343 usually appears after a Notes to Exchange migration. This error displays itself as “Internal Error 2343, contact the support team.” The Error 2343 is the result of improper installation of MS Outlook and improper un-installation of IBM Lotus Notes. For rectifying this error a user can refer the following methodologies:

1. Rename the Notes.ini file
By renaming the Notes.ini file a user (of Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000) can rectify the internal error 2343. This file resides at %systemroot%\system or %systemroot%\system32.

2. Use the Internal Error 2343 Utility
For rectifying the internal error 2343 a user can refer the Internal Error 2343 Utility. A user can download this utility from Microsoft’s support website.

3. Delete the NSF entries from Win.ini file
One can also delete the NSF entries from Win.ini file stored in the Windows folder. Create a backup of the Win.ini files stored in Windows folder. Run the Win.ini command from start. Now delete these entries from there: nsf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsf, ns3=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns3, nsg=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsg
nsh=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsh, ns2=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns2, ntf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ntf.

Remove the Win.ini file from Registry Editor, LotusMail section: Application=Notes, Program=c:\notes\Notes.exe NoDialogs. Save the changes and Exit the program.

After this, eradicate the Lotus Notes Keys from the registry. Close all the running programs and Run regedit command. Now search the following keys in Registry Editor: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsf. Now delete these keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsh
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ntf
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns3
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns2
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ndl

4. The error troubleshooting method if Lotus Notes is already installed on the system

Conduct a search on the Lotus Notes entries in Win.ini file for backup. Run the Win.ini. command and remove the nsf, ns3, nsg, nsh, ns2, ntf entries.

If the error has not been rectified then a user can refer the Lotus Notes to Exchange Conversion tool for accurate Notes to Exchange migration. This tool executes swift & flawless NSF to PST file conversion.

Both Lotus Notes and Exchange Server are the email clients but the discrepancies and differences between them lead the users to choose Exchange Server. The differences create our preferences towards one of these email clients. There are several factors and benefits that compel the users to select Exchange Server between the two. Lotus Notes involve greater cost factor than Exchange Server which results in switching from former to latter. Besides, Exchange Server is easy to handle and manage than Lotus Notes which further becomes a suitable reason for changing platform. Moreover, Lotus Notes requires technical expertise to operate while Exchange Server is quite easy to handle and novice users can go with it. These are the reasons due to which many organizations are adopting Exchange Server rather than Lotus Notes.

While migrating from one platform to another, you must make some prior preparations to execute the conversion successfully and to accept the changes done to your email platform. Two things are recommended to be done before doing such conversion which are:

Keep backup of the data before conversion: you must take precaution and need to keep backup data before you are pursuing migration process. As data loss may happen so it’s always a better practice to take up preventive measure so that you might not face any erroneous situation.

Get prepared for the Change: you should organize everything to accept the respective changes done to your email messaging platform. You should ensure that the system has configured accurately and you are enabled with the information like name, password to access the database.

Choosing third party notes to Exchange migration tool provides the best possible mechanism to conveniently convert Lotus notes to Exchange Server. There are several third party utilities available which can be opted for such conversion. You can also choose Lotus Notes to Outlook conversion tool that helps in converting Notes to Exchange Server instantly. This tool is completely capable of converting emails, contacts, journals, appointments, tasks, notes and various other items while preserving the same formatting of the data.

Being a part of Lotus Notes database the NSF file format system stores its information like user manual, metadata and design information. On the other hand, PST is a proprietary file format used by MS Outlook for storing the data in the mailbox. Since both the file formats are different they demand conversion every time a user migrates from notes to exchange. In this article, we will tell you some simple steps to convert Lotus Organizer 6.0 To Do into Microsoft Outlook:

1.First, export the To Do data to Text ASCII Delimited (.txt) format.
2.Click file option in Outlook and select Import and Export for starting the Wizard.
3.Up next, select Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
4.In Select file type to import from option select Tab Separated Values (Windows) and click Next.
5.Attach the Organizer To Do file in the Browse section that was previously exported in Text ASCII Delimited) format. By left-clicking the select the file, click OK, and click Next.
6.Mention the destination folder in Outlook and click Next.
7.Once Move to the Following actions is performed select Map Custom Fields.
8.Here, Drag and drop the appropriate values on to the destination field on right.
9.After mapping is completed click Finish to end the process.

After the conversion process gets over a user might faces various issues like:

1.Only first category is imported to Outlook.
2.Call entries are not imported to Outlook.
3.Note entries are not imported to Outlook.

In order to fulfill the increasing email communication demands, numerous email clients such as MS Outlook, Lotus Notes, Outlook Express, Mail, KMail, OperaMail, etc are present in the market.
Of all these email clients, Lotus Notes and MS Outlook are the two most popular email clients worldwide and are often being switched or migrated from one to another.

One way to migrate or switch from Notes to Exchange environment is to manually migrate from Lotus Notes to Outlook email client.

However, another way is to use a Microsoft provided utility known as the Migration Wizard to migrate or convert from Notes to Exchange environment.

Though, you can easily and successfully migrate from Lotus Notes to Outlook email client using the Migration Wizard, however, there is one limitation of this Migration Wizard. The limitation of this Migration Wizard is that this Migration Wizard completely fails just in case the mailbox size exceeds 1 GB in size or let’s say if the emails and other data items in the mailbox exceeds 16,000 marks in a single folder.

Now you must be thinking as to what can be done in such a situation when the Migration Wizard itself fails.

Well, just in case the Migration Wizard fails to successfully and flawlessly switch from Lotus Notes to Exchange environment, you can take help of a professional, efficient, and at the same time a comprehensive third party Lotus Notes to Outlook email client conversion tool to convert or migrate Lotus Notes to Exchange environment.

With the help of a professional and efficient third party Lotus Notes to Outlook email client conversion software, you can easily and efficiently convert Lotus Notes to Outlook files in an easy and efficient manner.

Lotus Notes to Outlook is a professional, efficient, and reliable Lotus Notes to Outlook conversion software which is completely capable of switching or migrating Notes to Outlook files.

Email migration is performed when users working on a particular email client server system want to make a shift to some other client server platform. Migrating from one email hosting system to another requires exporting all the user account mailboxes from the working system to the new system. Email migration could also be selective, where only a few user account mailboxes or certain emails from the mailboxes are exported to the new domain. Email migration from Notes to Exchange domain is fairly common as both these email client server systems are widely used in large organizations for communication. In notes to Exchange email migration emails from Lotus Notes are transferred to MS Outlook email client. Furthermore, complete users mailboxes are transferred from Lotus Domino Server to MS Exchange Server database.

Since email migration is a fairly complex and time consuming procedure if done manually, administrators usually opt for software utilities. Microsoft offers a free utility called the Migration Wizard (Mailmig.exe) for migrating emails from Notes to Exchange, however this utility is not suitable for mailboxes having a size limit of 1 GB or items exceeding 16,000 figures. For this reason, commercially available software utilities like NSF to PST tool are preferred. Third party software tools do not have any restriction in terms of converting large sized mailboxes or large volumes of items. Tools like NSF to PST tool simply convert the database files (.NSF format) of Lotus Notes to PST format accessible by MS Outlook. Upon conversion, these files containing all the emails and personal messages of user mailboxes are exported from notes to Exchange.

During migration from Notes to Exchange, all the emails and mailbox items including contact details, address books, drafts, tasks, notes, schedules, etc are converted from NSF format to PST format. “N” number of NSF files can be converted to PST files using NSF to PST tool to access them from MS Outlook email client. Conversion takes place with full accuracy and the metadata, format and internal data structures of the items are persevered. Entire user mailboxes can also be exported from Lotus Domino Server to MS Exchange Server with the help of NSF to PST conversion tool. For Domino to Exchange mailbox conversion, administrators are only required to select the desired servers by specifying their respective IP addresses and password to gain access. The conversion process can be initiated by the given controls in the tool resulting in successful and quick email migration.

Dealing with Lotus Notes Conversion issues

At times mail flow from Lotus Notes to a Microsoft Exchange server fails to function appropriately. Consequently, the Lotus Notes conversion process halts and you cannot start it again. If you are using the application of the Exchange 5.5 Server Service Pack 4 (SP4), it temporarily succeeds to resolve the behavior, but then the Exchange Notes Connector service stops functioning. As soon as mal flow stops, following error is logged in the Exchange connectivity browser logs:

2001/03/02 13:31:01- LME-NOTES-NTSMEX(014a) 4 54009:Processing outbound message from Notes. Sender: ‘Firstname Lastname/Company@COMPANY’ Note ID: ‘UNID: OFC13E311A:A2A5C7D4-ON882569EC:001F0AC3′.
>> nts2mex(2621)

But, the error message is not limited to the given one there could be many similar error message causing hindrance in the free flow of mail.

Cause behind the error

Lotus Notes behave like this when a message from Notes fails to convert successfully during the LME-NOTES-NTSMEX process.

Resolution to this issue

In order to resolve this behavior, you have to locate the message that is causing the problem. Look for the Exchange connectivity browser log to find out the last message that was processed prior to the time when the process stopped working:

Search the number “54009″ starting from bottom of the latest connectivity browser log.

Find the following entry:

In cooperative environment migrating from one email client to another is quite common. Users migrate from one email client to another for specific requirements or due to budget constraints. However, migrating from one email client to another is not an easy task; computer users prefer migrating to the email client, which is self-descriptive and fast. While migrating from one email client to another you should keep following facts in mind:

1. Migration is not an easy task; therefore, you should have good knowledge about both of the email clients.

2. Migration process may take hours depending on the size of the data you need to migrate; therefore, ensure that the migration process is not aborted in between.

3.Backup the data files before starting the migration process because if the migration process is aborted in between then the data files may get damaged. If you take the backup of the original files then you can reuse them after the migration process is aborted.

This article describes the process of Lotus Notes to Exchange Migration. Lotus Notes to Exchange is the most common migration amid organizations. Microsoft provides a utility named Exchange Migration Wizard (MAILMIG.exe) using which you can easily migrate data from Lotus Notes to Exchange. The MAILMIG.exe has some limitations that are mentioned below:
The tool can successfully migrate the items of the size 1GB
Maximum of 16, 128 items in a folder can be migrated

Depending on the aforementioned limitations, you should think about Lotus Notes to Exchange migration. In case the size of the Lotus Notes database is more than 1 GB then you should either split the database so that you can easily migrate email items from Lotus Notes to Exchange or should delete some unimportant emails from the file to reduce the size of the database to 1 GB.

You must reduce the size of the NSF file to 1 GB for the successful Lotus Notes to Exchange migration with the free MAILMIG.exe tool. However, if you want to migrate each and every email item from Lotus Notes to Exchange then you should perform migration using a third party Lotus Notes to Exchange migration tool.

Using a third party tool to migrate emails, notes, contacts, etc. from Notes to Exchange ensures you about the complete and successful migration. There is no size limit when you use third party Lotus Notes to Exchange migration tool. You can easily migrate data from the NSF file of any size to the Exchange or Outlook PST file.

Migrating from Lotus Notes to Exchange might be considered an easy task but it is actually not. Lotus Notes users often use Exchange Server SP2 version of Migration Wizard for migrating mailboxes from Domino Server to Exchange Server environment. However, there are many issues that arise while you to try to perform Lotus Notes to Exchange 2007 migration. Here are some tasks that Migration Wizard lacks to perform:

While migrating from Notes to Exchange using Migration Wizard, you need to clean up or remove mailboxes, the original mailboxes on the source location keep receiving email message consistently even after migration is complete. In order to avoid this issue, you will have to delete the original mailboxes or configure other recipients to re-direct them to the new mailboxes hosted on Exchange platform. Also, the Migration Wizard does not migrate custom recipients; it creates contacts from custom recipients.

Migration Wizard is not designed to preserve ACLs to other mailboxes or public folders. If in case post-migration, the mailbox owner tries to update his profile to refer to new mailbox in Exchange, then he won’t be able to connect the mail resources in original Exchange 5.5 organization. The source from where you migrate mailboxes must be different from the target.

Migration Wizard cannot migrate personal mail archives or personal address books, distribution lists, Inbox rules (hence users need to update their Outlook Inbox rules) and public folders. Public Folders can be transferred by exporting them to PST files. Also, there are times when you try to migrate Lotus Notes mailboxes to Exchange server and the Migration Wizard stops or crashes with an access violation (Exception: c0000005) in the nNOTES.dll file. This issue usually occurs when Lotus Notes mailbox contains some corrupt messages. The Notes Nxrtf.dll and Nnotes.dll binary files cause Migration Wizard to stop responding when the wizard tries to migrate a corrupt mailbox item.

All these issues are too technical to handle, for a person, who is not technically well-versed with the insights of their email platforms. Your slightest of mistake in Lotus Notes to Exchange 2007 migration might lead you to lose vital data. Therefore, the ideal way to migrate is with a third party Notes to Exchange migration tool. These tools are devised as per the organizational requirements, so you can migrate multiple mailboxes in a single cycle. All you have to do is select settings and migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange.

Pertaining to its contemporary design, Notes to Exchange software easily convert emails and other email items from Lotus Notes accurately. It can easily transfer emails, attachments, images, drafts, sent items, journals, calendars, to-do list, appointments, tasks, address book, folder and sub-folder to PST files so that the data can be easily accessed with MS Outlook.
